THE GAME, AT A GLANCE
About 2048
2048 is Gabriele Cirulli’s sliding-number puzzle. Each move shifts the whole board, and equal tiles combine when they meet. This locally hosted open-source edition keeps the original puzzle without in-game ads.
Your goal: Build a 2048 tile while keeping enough empty space for your next move.
How to play 2048
- Press an arrow key or swipe across the board to move every tile in that direction.
- Two equal tiles that meet merge into one tile with double the value. A new tile appears after a valid move.
- When you reach 2048, choose Keep going to continue, or use New game to start a fresh board.
Publisher controls: Use the arrow keys or swipe across the board. Equal tiles merge when they meet. Use New game to restart.
Tips for 2048
- Keep your highest tile near a corner and build the next-largest tiles alongside it.
- Before making a merge, check where the whole row or column will end up.
- Leave empty cells available; a full board gives you fewer ways to recover.
